Minority and women-led cannabis company, The Cake House, has announced opening its first store in the state of Michigan. The Cake House Battle Creek is the fifth store the multi-state recreational cannabis dispensary chain has opened in the last 13 months.
The company’s CEO, Geo Pattah, says The Cake House is already positioning itself for more rapid expansion. The Wildomar, CA-headquartered company plans to open another 6 locations in the next 12 months.

While The Cake House was born in California, the helm of the company is deeply rooted in Michigan. The company’s Chief Operating Officer, Charlena Berry, calls Southwest Michigan home. Berry, an advocate for social justice and the fight for cannabis’s legitimacy, recently published Breaking the Stigma, a book about tackling the prejudices surrounding the use of cannabis and the weight of the opioid crisis on the disenfranchised . In Breaking the Stigma, Berry, a Fortune 500 business executive, also lays out her experiences in becoming a successful cannabis retailer by focusing on educating others to it benefits and the emerging pathways for cannabis.
The Cake House prides itself on education-based customer care experience and supports individuals throughout all stages of their cannabis journey. Trained budtenders help customers receive the most optimal cannabis experience possible.
The 2,700-square-foot store located at 1230 E. Michigan Ave. features a colorful mural painted by Battle Creek native, Jaziel Pugh, The store carries popular brands such as Jeeter, Wyld, Redbud Roots, Breeze, Kiva, Choice Labs, BackPack Boyz, MKX, and others.
