In July,  the U.S. House of Representatives finally approved a bill  permitting cannabis advertising on broadcast television and radio stations.  Currently, tied to the U.S. federal law, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) can still take action against TV and radio broadcasters who run cannabis advertisements — even in legalized states. Exempt from the media lockdown by the FCC were internet, cable, print and social media providers.

However, reaching a nationwide audience on the internet remains problematic as state regulations prohibit the direct advertising of sales on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. Cannabis ads remain banned on major platforms like Twitter and YouTube. However, cannabis advertising is still projected to reach $18.5 billion in the U.S. this year, according to Adage, and some internet radio stations are hearing the sweet sound of profits broadcasting ads for Maryjane.

Power Nation Radio is among the online broadcasters who have been helping cannabis businesses thrive as the federal government continues to kick the can on full legalization. A popular new station on the internet, Power Radio Nation draws more than 2 million weekly listeners, and millions around the world tune-in for hip hop, jazz, gospel and hits spun by the New York-based broadcaster. Already making an impact in the U.S., Power Radio Nation says it is quickly expanding into the U.K. market.

As internet stations operate without the need for FCC licenses, broadcasters like Power Nation Radio have been allowed to run cannabis ads on music platforms including iHeart Radio, Tunein, Live365, Soundcloud and Pandora, bringing exposure to business with a backbeat.

According to PrograMetrix, a programmatic performance agency, digital audio ads also offer business campaigns optimization options and data-based audience targeting with tracking capabilities. Brands can market CBD and cannabis audiences with ads on streaming music and radio platforms with banner ads for tracking clicks, conversions and campaign analysis.

Those features alone make advertising via online  radio stations worth tuning into. For additional information on Power Radio Nation, please visit here.
