Independent craft drink maker St. Peter’s Spirits of Ontario this week announced a partnership with leading global cannabis retailer Cookies to expand its line of successful Green Monké cannabis-infused drinks. The partnership will see sales of Green Monké in Cookies outlets throughout the US, Canada and in Europe. San Francisco-based Cookies currently operates 40 stores in 17 markets, spanning 4 countries.

“Green Monké beverages are one of the most well-known cannabis drinks in the UK and Canada, and we are thrilled to be able to partner with them and sell their beverages in our Cookies and Lemonnade stores,” said Parker Berling, president of Cookies.

Reformulated and renamed

Following the success the original Green Monkey beverage — a CBD-only version which sold over a million units in the U.K. in 2019 — THC has been added to the sparkling green drink and renamed Green Monké for the North American market.

St. Peter’s partnered with California-based infusion technology company, Vertosa, to develop a fast-release microencapsulation emulsion to carry the THC. The fast-release technology allows consumers to feel high as quickly as they feel the effects of alcohol, within approximately 15 minutes of consumption. The fruit flavored sodas are said by the company to spark a fun, social high. Each can contains 3mg of Delta 9 THC from the hybrid Sensi-Star strain comprising 70% indica and 30% sativa and 6mg of Canadian-grown cannabis distillate for body calmness

“The moment we tasted it we knew that Green Monkey was destined for North America … where it has been transformed into Green Monké,” said Jen Lockwood, St. Peter’s Spirits’ chief marketing officer.

“Our partnership with Cookies further demonstrates how the growing cannabis drinks category is the future of cannabis consumption,” said Pat Gleeson, CEO of Green Monké.
