Princess Tengku Chanela Jamidah of The Malaysian Royal Family is certainly a magical figure in the movement to legalize cannabis. As a global hemp and medicinal cannabis activist, her work supporting legalization across the Asia-Pacific region has seen her become a major voice for cannabis on the international scene.
Verde Resources (OTC-QB: VRDR), a Nevada-based company focused on sustainable agricultural technology and whose subsidiaries include CBD-wellness company Verde Life, announced Thursday the appointment of Jamidah as director of strategic initiatives for Verde. In the same announcement, Steven Sorhus was named to company’s financial controller.
The princess previously founded Halal Hemp to inspire the adoption of halal CBD certification and Verde Life today offers a unique line of CBD products that are certified Halal by the American Halal Foundation.
Jamidah was the first Asian American Pacific Islander and Muslim panelist to speak at the inaugural Regennabis Conference held at the United Nations in New York earlier this year. She was also a key speaker at the first Medicinal Cannabis Symposium held in the Malaysian Parliament last August.
Sorhus, a CPA with over 10 years of experience, had previously managed and consulted clients from small businesses to multinational corporations on business evaluations, streamlining accounting systems, coaching and team building. The appointments follow on the heels of Verde appointing Jack Wong as its new president and CEO last October.
“These appointments are in line with our mission — going green and beyond — bringing to life our aspirations of becoming a worldwide solutions leader in achieving Net Zero,” said Wong. “My new teammates and I are truly embracing the century of Regeneration and Decarbonization and the exciting work starts now.”
