Weedmaps’ Premieres Original Series: “Tumbleweeds with Killer Mike”

Cannabis online marketplace Weedmaps announced  it is treading in the steps of providers-turned-producers like Amazon and Netflix with the premiere of its original docuseries “Tumbleweeds with Killer Mike.” The first two episodes of the four-part series will air on VICE TV at 10pm EST on April 20 – the unofficial day of cannabis culture celebration.

The show was created in a partnership of Weedmaps and Wheelhouse DNA, the production arm of  the digital media, marketing and entertainment management business, Wheelhouse, started by “Pawn Stars” creator Brent Montgomery. A trailer for the new series can be seen at here on YouTube.

Famed rapper and activist Killer Mike hosts the cannabis-centric docuseries celebrating the impact and evolution of cannabis culture in Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York City and Chicago. The first two episodes spotlight the highlife in Las Vegas and San Francisco,  followed by New York on 5/1, Chicago on 5/8 and a marathon of all four episodes on 5/15. The series will be available on VICE TV and VICE TV streaming apps.

Operated by WM Technology of Irvine, CA, Weedmaps wants its series to challenge existing preconceptions about cannabis by showing what the plant has done and can continue to do for communities. In each episode guided by Killer Mike, he lays out the soul of the city he’s visiting – offering his insights on how cannabis is finally intersecting with the local culture it has long been a part of.

“We have always been committed to elevating voices that power the cannabis community, drive social equity and further legalization,” said Juanjo Feijoo, CMO and COO of Weedmaps. “The intersection of comedy, local culture and cannabis is a natural fit as all are driven by shared values of creativity, discovery and connection.”

In the course of the series, Killer Mike sits down with comedians like Jocelyn Chia and Napoleon Emil, hip hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy and cannabis advocates like AMVETS’ Cherissa Jackson.  Killer Mike explores the workings of fast-paced cannabis dispensaries, including RISE in Nevada and Stiiizy in Los Angeles. Accompanied by his friends, he seeks out the best blend of cannabis and culture  touring clothing stores and trending restaurants like Cafe Cannal, Outta Sight Pizza and Extra Butter, to name a few. Through Weedmaps’ mobile app users can interact with the businesses and cafes, shop and make a donations to groups like AMVETS. The app also offers bonus content from “Tumbleweeds.”

“‘Tumbleweeds’ has been a fun show to be a part of. Getting a chance to smoke a plant my mom and I love, hang out and laugh with hilarious comedians  — all while frequenting local businesses and art installations — you’ll never hear me complain about my job!” said Killer Mike.
