Think of it as marijuana gone modular. Would-be cultivators can now create their own cannabis “strains” using ExStax’s stackable vaping system that allows you to mix-and-match cannabis, tobacco or CBD/hemp vapor products.

The first-to-market, dual-cartridge Stak’d system — engineered and patented by Mesa, Arizona-based ExStax — allows for the vaporization of different two different liquids at once. Customers can mix and match any vapeable liquid to create their own cultivars.

ExStax currently offers three cartridges online, but sees the selection expanding in partnerships with other cannabis providers whose countless stains and formulations are ready to be prepped, mixed and packaged. But for those seeking to experiment on their own, the vapes are compatible and stackable with every .510 cartridge in the legal marketplace.

“This new world of vapor technology promotes cross-industry collaboration between cannabis and retail brands, while engaging a diverse consumer base,” says Rick Avila, one of the patent developers and co-CEO at ExStax. “Our technology has the ability to combine any two vapeable substances at your fingertips.”

According to the company, Avila and his partners spent years engineering the Stak’d cartridge design before co-founding ExStax with Chris Botti in 2022. Made with medical grade components, the patented cartridges are available in .3, .5, .7, and 1.0 ml “stacks.” The vapes are compatible with most .510 batteries.

According to a recent Headset.io report, vape pens are the second most popular cannabis category behind flower in the U.S. and the vape market is only projected to grow as more consumers seek out personalized, higher-potency products.
