Cannabis Can Grow South Africa: The Future of Cannabis in the Gauteng Province

Join this week’s host, Sibusiso Xaba as he discusses the current legal cannabis space and potential markets with Mr. Motlatjo Makaepea, Chief Director of Agroprocessing and Economic Services at the Gauteng Province in South Africa.

Together with co-host, Danmari Duguid, the three unpack what the current South African cannabis markets are looking like and what the South African government’s plans are to support the industry and its development in the Gauteng province.

Host, Sibusiso Xaba has extensive experience with financial matters across Africa. He specializes in capital markets, deal structuring, syndication, venture capital fundraising, hedging solutions and portfolio management. Sibusiso has worked with African governments, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, pension funds, insurers, and asset managers. He has closed transactions worth over $5 billion. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Prior to Global Go Africa, Sibusiso worked as a banker at Goldman Sachs and Investec in London for over 8 years. Sibusiso holds a Business Science Degree from the University of Cape Town. He is an Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Fellow.

Co-host, Danmari Duguid, is an admitted attorney of the High Court and practices in general and commercial litigation, commercial drafting, cannabis law and intellectual property law. She holds a BA and LLB degree from the University of Pretoria. She has a keen interest in the evolving space of blockchain, cannabis and cyber law and is currently the M&R Cannabis Department lead at Schindlers SI Attorneys – the law firm that helped legalise cannabis in South Africa.
